On June 8, Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with a presentation on the projects of modernization of water reservoirs and improvement of drinking water supply in Surkhandarya region.

Water from rivers and streams is an important resource for agriculture, energy, and people's livelihood. In our country, this precious gift is being preserved and directed to the benefit of the people. For this purpose, in 2017, the joint-stock company Uzbekhydroenergo was established by presidential decree. Last year, 4 more reservoirs were transferred to the management of this society, and they reached 6. With the involvement of foreign companies, the technical condition of each reservoir was studied and repair measures that could not be delayed were determined.

In accordance with it, dams, water intake and discharge facilities are being repaired, pumping units are being restored. The presentation provided information about these works and future tasks. The head of the state gave instructions on improving the safety of all reservoirs by modernizing them, updating hydromechanical equipment and measuring devices, and digitizing the system. Through this, all work processes will be connected online to the situational analysis center of the joint-stock company, and an additional 120 million kilowatt hours of electricity production will be created per year.

In addition, 2 new small hydroelectric power plants with an annual capacity of 22 million kilowatt hours will be built in Hisorak and Ohangaron reservoirs. The Agency for Space Research and Technologies was tasked with monitoring the state of water reservoirs and providing them with space photos and data. The tasks of involving the private sector in the construction of small hydroelectric power stations, training of highly educated and middle-level specialists were also shown.

One of the factors of the quality of life and health of the population is clean drinking water. But today, only 58% of Surkhandarya residents are provided with centralized drinking water. The amount of water mineralization is high in the southern districts of the province and in the city of Termiz. Therefore, last year, the president put forward the initiative of drawing a network from the Topalang reservoir. A project was developed and started to work on this.

To date, 47 kilometers of pipelines have been laid, and drinking water has been brought to the center of Sariosia. It is planned to be delivered to Denov and Shorchi districts by the end of the year. According to the project, 200,000 cubic meters of water treatment plant and nearly 400 kilometers of main pipeline will be laid overnight. As a result, the provision of clean drinking water to the population of the region reaches 90%. The head of state emphasized the need to restore pipelines in districts and neighborhoods, build new networks, and establish quality services.
